AntiFreeze in Trans....Huh?

My question is this: Is everyone in total agreement that my torque converter has been contaminated? If the torque converter has a seperate plug wouldn't that suggest that its been filled seperately from the actual transmission? This "tc" is spinning at the speed of the engine so what lines can actually be connected to it to supply it with fluid? I can't help but think that its fluid supply is seperate from what is in the trans pan mainly because of what the purpose of the "tc" is. Can some one give me a reason to think differently ( I hate bad news, but I think I have to know one way or another how many heads this monster has :( )

There is a pump behind the TC , It pumps the fluid throughout the entire transmission , it eventually shares fluid throughout the TC and the entire trans from the front Radiator cooler all the way to the pan . 99.9% sure its contaminated as well .

it is there to help change all the oil when serviced not to suggest that the two are separate it just a low spot that will not drain from the pan.

99.9% are odds I definitly won't bet against and I appreciate hearing it at this forum from people that have helped me much. Thanks for the discription of how the fluid gets there and also the idea behind the drain plug. Disappointing but very informative. Okay, so now the work begins on figuring out the best way of doing the flush (once I clear away about a foot of snow after this storm pass thru ). If we all lived down the block from each other I would take you all out for some bbq wings and brewski's and talk football instead of transmissions :) peace. gk

Great! Now I've got Chocolate Pudding in my Underpants!

Seriously, it's not what you think. I actually started the thread a while back because I found lots of coolant in my transmission. After a new radiator, about 50 quarts of ATF and a couple of Homer 5 gallon bucket flushes, I had the truck running fine again. The ATF literally looked like a strawberry milk shake!

I was really worried that the transmission was going to destroy itself any second after that, but it ran just fine for another year and a half and 20k miles without skipping a beat. I traded it in on a new pickup a few months ago or I'd still be driving it! Not saying you will definitely be ok, but I had read horror story after horror story about the explorer transmission and I was sure I was in for a rebuild. But there might be hope after all :)

BTW, you most likely don't have a torque converter drain plug on your transmission.

I'll be dang'd. After looking outside at a cleanup of a foot of white stuff (will do that in pm after I let Mother Nature help me out with a little bit of her melting skills ( he, he...)) I sat down and read your post and I got this warm feelin' go thru me (No, I didn't pee on myself nor was it chocolate pudding :D) and I said: "Yeah, this is ok. There's still hope." Thank You Mr Blenton, I hope you have a great day 'cause you got mine of to a pretty good start. gk
