Any 4.0 sohc builds out there

Hey guys I'm in engine building class at school... I don't have a project at the moment.. Thinking about rebuild my 4.0 sohc... freshin the bottom end up... maybe regrind cams and porting the heads... From what i found the block can't be bored enough to mess with because of oil passages... My queston is if any has the regrind cams from supersixmotorsports.com.. There .50 of lift and 210 i think of duration.. does that equal to a rough idle or not.. I don't have the money for there heads but was wondering if there worth the money or not.. Thanks Guys

I do know this. You can't just get the cams and not the heads. You have to do both being that the cams are regrinds.

I know Tom and will email him your question IF you're honestly thinking about getting the heads and cams. From my knowlege, you'll have a loop but nothing really bad.

I would suggest doing this as a last resort for power. If you want the biggest bang for you buck, it looks like you have room for improvment doing other things. However, if you're gonna build the engine, and will be doing the other things, it'll help out. You'll need headers after this to get the most out of it. Will email him for the increase info but you have to remember, the people that buys this stuff are serious racers with mustangs. In other words, I don't think anyone has ever just added the heads and cams, then dyno'd. I think you'll be looking @ 20HP min and more with other mods like headers.

Well get me a price too, then. It won't be this year, but I've been keeping my eye open for a used 4.0 SOHC. I've already got the engine hoist and stand, and I'd like to do a full rebuild, forged internals, an X-Charger, and moving my NX kit over.

search for creagers thread in the modified 91-94 forums he just did a killer 4.0 rebuild on the OHV, not exactly what your lookin for but its still helpful

I went ahead and mailed him but can't promise a better price than what's listed.

$1550 for the stage 3 heads and $450 for the cams is really not all that bad considering there's no other options unless you get it done yourself. bang for the buck? Heck no, but if you want to go to the next level, then there you are...

Reality is; It's expensive to build a 4.0 SOHC. A lot of people give up right about now. I can understand why but I'm sort of into the motor right now and want to see what it can do.

My plans were to purchase another 4.0 so that I could build on the side. Either way, the plans involed the cams and stage 3 heads. I'm wanting to turbo mine so I need less compression to be safe.
