hey guys. im planning on installing a new system tomorrow morning. i quickly looked under the hood and didnt see a good place to run the power wire through the firewall. just curious what you guys did. i have a 93 and the battery is on the passenger side, as i want to mount the amp under the passenger seat, so i dont want to zig zag through the engine compartment. i noticed the heater core is right behind the firewall, so im kinda hesitant to drill in that area. any help is appericated. thanks!!!!

I drilled a couple big holes right where the pedals are. There isn't really anything to hit there in the engine compartment. I put it next to where the factory wires were put through.

i ran mine through the gromet up by the brake pedal...then again, i have my amp on the drivers side in back. if you plan to put it under the pass seat (which i would advise against) you will probably end up having to zig zag to keep away from that heater core and exhaust pipes.

Just drill a new hole in the passenger side. Just check the other side is clear. Just don't forget to use a rubber grommet (?) on the hole to prevent your wiring getting scuff up. You don't want your new system short circuiting.

if you want to keep it on the passenger side then pull up the carpeting in front of the front passenger seat (where someone would be resting their feet when sitting down in the seat). you'll see a rubber cap type thing. pull it out and run it through there. tie a piece of string to it and pull it through to the battery.

in other words, he just said to pop another hoe by the #2 pos body mount, and run it through there which gets it away from the heater core and the rubber plug will help keep waqter out if you just notch it for your wire.

ok guys, thanks to all for your advice. im going out to tackle it right now. im going to look for the rubber cap and try to go that route. thanks again!

just a thought, but do you even use the heat since you are in tx? of not, then you really dont need to worry too much about the heater core.

LOL... I wonder that too. Like cars in the caribean, do cars in the Ford dealership even have heater cores in them. Knowing that the cars will be used were the temperature is always in the 80's and up.

always doesnt always apply. like if you buy a car new in michigan, it almost def has the engine block heater option, but an actual heater is standard because someone who buys it in say hawaii may move to alaska. likewise, a/c is a common feature.

Dang, so this is what everyone thinks of texans?!?!? I only drive the explorer when my horse is too tired. seriously though, yes there anre actually times when we do need a heater. (maybe 1-2 months at the most) but we definatly need our a/c!!!! well i did complete the amp install, and because the size of the amp, we mounted it under the passengers side back seat. i ended up finding a small rubber cap that i went through close to the base of the seat belt bracket bolt. (inbetween the door jambs) it worked out well and the explorer definatly bumps. thanks again for yalls help!
