Was there ever a manual transmission Explorer or Sport Trac produced? If so what years and models?

I'm seriously considering a 5-speed manual swap and need a clutch pedal assembly to start with so I don't have to custom make something from scratch.

02 was then only year Manual Trannys were made for the 3rd gen X.

01-02 ST were the only years i believe... check the 01-05 ST section fella

The 5 speed manual was offered behind the 4.0L SOHC in the Sport & Sport Trac 2001-2003, also the Ranger all the way up through the current model year. Last manual Explorer was 2002. It's the M5OD-R1HD, all w/hydraulic actuation. They'll be much more plentiful in the Rangers.

Tony's Auto Salvage USA-SC(Spartanburg) 1-800-964-8669 has a 2003 Sport Trac & 2008 Ranger w/ manual transmissions. Only place listed anywhere around.

Thanks for the great info!

Are you saying the Ranger and Explorer are using the same clutch systems those years?

Just that they shared the same manual trans. The 02 4-door Explorer would be the most likely to "bolt in" but you may only have to add the clutch pedal to your pedal tree. IDK if the Ranger is the same but it's worth looking into since the manual Explorers/ Sport/Sport Trac's are few and far between. If the Ford dealership in Gastonia has a decent Parts Tech they could help you out a lot on this upfit. I have Service manuals but paper Parts manuals are scarce.

Awesome info. Thanks again. I'll check with my Ford rep and see what we can find out.

Actually nope. A '01 Sport Trac (I'm pretty sure that is the only year you could get a manual in the Sport Trac) or '01-'03 Sport would be the best option to get a bolt in followed by Rangers with the SOHC engine. The '02 4door Explorers actually used a different transmission

Wikipedia shows that 02 was the last year of the Manual. And since that body style is probably closer to my 4th Gen, I'll try to find a manual trans '02 vehicle.

That probably won't be easy. If they did make them with manuals in '02 I've never seen one after '01. And I've looked pretty extensively. But there aren't any differences between '01 and '05 (since '06 was the 2nd generation) in that regard or between them and '01-'03 Sports.

I found about 5 of the 02 Sport Trac's with the 5 speed on cars.com located around the country, here's one with some interior pics:

clicky clicky

The '02 & '03 FORD Service Manuals list the Sport & Sport Trac in the Specification Table as having a manual trans available. The pedal arrangement is the issue, not the transmission though. I'm just going on printed material not first hand experience. The 3rd Gen Explorer would seem to be a closer match for the 2nd Gen Sport Trac. I mentioned the Ranger since it's the only "small chassis" since '02 to offer a manual trans.

The first Sport Trac I looked at was a manual transmission model. I walked away as soon as I saw that.:thumbdwn: I've shifted enough gears in my time, only automatics for me! ( That carries over into weapons too.......hmmmmm, I must be getting lazy!):D

There were NO '06 Sport Tracs............. ;) Gen 1 '01-'05, Gen 2 '07-'10.

That would be the '02 4-door, and I agree it would be the closest to yours. BTW, Steve, just to be correct your 2008 Adrenalin is a 2nd Gen Sport Trac.

FWIW, I'm not trying to be a FKIA. It's just easier to get to your destination when you follow the correct road. I'm just reading the road map assuming (yes, I know) it's correct.

Oh he has a '08 Sport Trac. Somehow I completely missed that before and for some reason was thinking he had a 1st gen Sport Trac. I don't know how I completely missed that.:confused::banghead::dunno::crazy:

In that case yes a '02 4 door would be his best bet.

LOL !!! At least it seems we are now all in agreement! The real challenge now is finding that '02 4-door with a manual transmission!!:D

(didn't mean to edit your post. hit the wrong button!)

New member here, I have a 2001 Sport Trac with 5 speed manual, great to drive! Not the smoothest gear shift, as a matter of fact probably the least smooth of all the manuals I've owned or driven but I still love it.
