Hi alphabets13:
I bought my Ex used with one of those rubber antennas on it. You're right about how it stayed bent all the time. I bought a factory antenna at the dealership for $10 and cut it down so that it is just below the height of the windshield:
1: Cut the antenna
2: Put the cut-off in a vise, and pull the little ball off the end using pliers
3: Drill out the little hole in the ball so that it fits onto the end of the shorter antenna (the antenna diameter tapers along its length, so the hole has to be made bigger to fit)
4: Use a little epoxy to reattach the ball onto the shortened antenna
5: Touch up the paint with matte black spray paint (they make a matte black trim paint that works perfectly for this)
After the paint dries, it's ready for installation. Cost - free if you already have the epoxy and paint, cheap otherwise. I think it looks very good, and it seems to have no effect upon radio reception.
Regards,
John.
