instead of the big factory ones? i had one from walmart that was small and sleek, but it was rubber and it would bend and be crooked all the time.

there are apc billit antennas and small stock like ones available through any of the places that have aftermarket spruce up accesories like pepboys. kragens, etc

Hi alphabets13:

I bought my Ex used with one of those rubber antennas on it. You're right about how it stayed bent all the time. I bought a factory antenna at the dealership for $10 and cut it down so that it is just below the height of the windshield:

1: Cut the antenna
2: Put the cut-off in a vise, and pull the little ball off the end using pliers
3: Drill out the little hole in the ball so that it fits onto the end of the shorter antenna (the antenna diameter tapers along its length, so the hole has to be made bigger to fit)
4: Use a little epoxy to reattach the ball onto the shortened antenna
5: Touch up the paint with matte black spray paint (they make a matte black trim paint that works perfectly for this)

After the paint dries, it's ready for installation. Cost - free if you already have the epoxy and paint, cheap otherwise. I think it looks very good, and it seems to have no effect upon radio reception.

Regards,
John.

What about those stubby antennas? They're rubber, about little over a foot long, and found on Lightnings for the most part. They're very flexible too. Wish I could find one of those.

Check out performanceproducts.com. You can get 9",12", 15", and 21" stainless steel antennas for Explorers for $17.95-$19.95. Otherwise if you want one with a laser flamed design, they are $22.95-$24.95. They are made from 1/4" stainless steel rods and machined aluminum bases. They look pretty nice, I was considering getting one. As far as flexible ones, I've seen quite a few on cars that can be twisted up into any shape but don't know where people got them. I suppose any ricer supplier would have them.

Ha! When I bought my '93 LTD from a used car lot, some idiot stuck a Motorola StarTAC antenna with some foil in place of the factory when. Alas, I went to my dealer and bought a new base and whip.
