Year, Model & Trim Level
in process of purchase
i just bought a 94 eddie bauer with a "minor" trans issue. when the x is at stand still you need to rev the engine to around 2 grand and then it will engage into gear this will do this for 1st and reverse. other than that the transmission operates normally. just as an fyi the trans started doing this after a fluid and filter change. this appears to be the only major thing with this x so as the thread states Any Thoughts?

...starting with the easy thing first, is your X 4x4??? if so they may have put in a wrong filter...

it is 4x4 with auto hubs

...the 4x4 filter has a taller sump pickup so it reaches the fluid in the pan...i'm sure someone else will jump in but i have heard of this being done wrong before...i'm not all that good on tranny's but being your tranny was fine until you had the filter changed, that would be my guess....not saying this couldn't be another symptom of a tranny problem...good luck...:D

...btw, have you checked your fluid level???

i thought of that so i will check that as soon as i pick it up in a hour

ok guys an up date the tranny slips in and out of direct drive but engages at 1800 rpm when cold do fix it or do i kill it

doesn't that sound more like a torque converter issue?

it could be but do you think its worthy of new gear such as that i can easily part it for more than i paid 4 it do kill it or do i save it ill get pics to you all soon

I'd fix it, just my opinion...........the question you need to ask yourself is, just how much do I like this X, don't ya' think?

My 94 Ex had a similar issue.

I was losing fluid due to a bad tranny modulator valve.

The slipping occured when the fluid level was low.

Have you checked your ATF fluid level?

shuddering occured when flid was low now it slips in and out but still maintains some forward momentum when it does this. this is my third 94 x and this one cost me 200 to buy. I think that the clutches are starting to take a dump i could be wrong i hoipe

This thread should be moved to the tranny section. In fact, this is a fairly common problem that has been covered there, do a search. Other than fluid level (and tranny modulator) I believe that this is commonly caused by a servo and/or servo gasket problem.

how do you move it?
