Any wheelin in Virginia???

You guys know that I won't be able to make it to GWNF, 20 minutes is just too far for me to drive.....Just Kidding. I will be there. I get back to H-burg on the 11th of Jan, so any weekend after that in January I am free.

I'm having problems getting my e-mail due to msn screwing with my account. I couldn't get your message with your number. Since I'm using my parents computer for internet for the time being could you email it to my moms address? stch4u@att.net

I have now updated my email address and everything is working ok. You should be able to send me your number through my email. I just updated my email in my profile. Could you resend it to my new email? Sorry about the mix up

beachn,
I sent the email out yesterday afternoon. Hope you got it this time.

Sounds damn good to me. Let's make it offical so I can schedule off for sat.

Chris

Sounds good to me. I'll put in for that weekend off too.

I just began work on my truck. Flat right front & idle arm bushings today. Decided not to go to the bone yard today, I have enough to work on right here. Maybe next weekend I'll get down there to look for the backer plate. Then I'll have a couple of weekends to get the plate replaced and a (good) inspection sticker.

Having said all that...the 18th and 19th are good for me!

I still didn't get that email but I emailed you my number If you could give me a call that would be great. Oh yeah and Jan. 18-19 sounds good to me!

Im at 75% for this one.

Im going to try and get down there for this one.
I still have some front end work to do though first - ball joints and replace the pumpkin with 4.10s to match my rear. - hopefully Ill get it done the week after Christmas.

OCC has a ride to Peters mill on New Years Day that I may go on, with or without the navajo. Anyone thats near DC and would like to check it out give me a shout Ill get youn the info, it is an easy trail.

Happy Holidays

Jan 18-19 works for me... i'll schedule off for it when I get to work tomorrow.

Chris

I may have to ride along with someone, my ball joints are all shot to hell and I don't have the money to get them fixed. I can drive my Ex on the road, but I am a little worried about taking it on the trails. Anybody know of a cheap place to replace all upper and lower ball joints?

Rent a ball joint press and do it in the driveway?

How hard would that be with low to moderate knowledge of the front end of an Ex?

Do a search of the site and take a look at a repair manual that covers it. You should be able to get a good idea about what it will be about, and then make a decision - if you have a mechanically minded friend that would help too(if they have changed out ball joints in a 4x even better!) A complete set of tools, a friend, a manual and your off.
Hopefully I can let you know next weekend, Ive never worked on the front end past the brakes. Im going to tear into my front end thursday or friday- hopefully.

Merry Christmas everyone- looking forward to the 18th.

Basically what is involved is: remove wheels, caliper, wheel bearings, rotor, brake backing plate, spindle, axle shaft, and then drop the steering knuckle. Use the press to press out the old ones (a bfh works most of the time), and then use the press to press them in. Re-assemble. Don't forget to mark the upper ball joint camber bushing so you don;t change the camber setting. It is actually very simple, just takes some time and pulling a lot of stuff to get to it. I did upper and lowers on my X at my shop in 2.5 hours (first time I had done them on an X before).

I got a hi-lift jack for christmas and will be getting my roof rack tomorrow so I will have that on before we go to the mountains. Hopefully I will have my on board air hooked up to!

Getting a little closer

I got started a few days ago getting my truck road ready. Ran into a problem with idler arm, it doesn't line up like it should. I'll be called Superlift Monday, but never talked to anyone; I'll try again this Monday. I picked up a backer plate down in Chesapeake this morning. Got it on, but getting the locker apart and back together was a pain. I'll do a brake job on the rear in the morning. After that I'll just be doing some body straightening from my last Tellico trip.

Damn, my wife just reminded me. I will be out of town the weekend of the 18th! So it looks like I'm out for this one. Sorry guys!

Arr, Damn man another chance missed for us to wheel together. On a more positive note, called 4wheelparts tonight. Got a quote for $560 front and rear 4.56's with install kits. Looks like that will be the next thing on my agenda (still gona look for a d35 pumpkin for a little bit though, so I don;t have to do the install).

Chris,

I dont know if you mean a pumpkin a 35 with 4.56s or if you want an empty case to swap in gears so you wont have the truck down for m,ore than a day.

I will have a pumpkin with 3.55s avail later this month if you are interested- I have a 4.10 pumpkin to swap in before the run on the 18th.
