It's an XLT and there is no keypad on the door. Could it still have had the keyless remote?

Neh. Oh yeah, here's another way to see if you have keyless entry or not. I think if it doesn't have keyless entry, then there shouldn't be a computer installed in the jack compartment.

Ok, it works like you said. The only reason why I thought I didn't have it was because I have the original window sticker, and nowhere on it does it mention anything about an alarm. It mentions every other possible option, except the v8 engine, of course.

Too bad my insurance won't give me a discount on it...

Yup, you're right about the window sticker. Just looked over mine and there isn't any mention of it on the sticker. Since it isn't on the sticker, it is probably standard on all '97 models. Still should have been listed under the section of "Included at no extra charge" like the 4 wheel ABS and cruise control, ect. I must have found out about it in the owner's manual since I read it from cover to cover several times after I first bought it.

I quickly looked at my manual. I tend not to believe everything in the manual, considering sometimes it says, for example, "Alarm (if equipped)" or something like that. I try not to believe it if I know my Explorer doesn't have an item. In this case, it turns out I had it yet it didn't register...

on the ford's there are mainly two types of security systems. on where the theft light flashes whenever the car is off (has a bigger key then normal) this is the pats system. the other is just a conventional type alarm. however i have never seen them light up white.

The ONLY time my Alarm light came on was during an extended high speed trip to New Mexico. Comforting sight to see your Theft light come on going 85 to 90mph...
