I know I have a vacuum leak. I can't seem to find it but I can hear it very well on the driver side of the engine. What spray is best to find vacuum leaks?

I use wd-40 on my vehicles to look for leaks. It works pretty well, and is less flammable than starting fluid.

WD40

I used WD40 all over the vacuum hoses. I couldn't find anywhere that cause the engine RPMs to change. Which makes me believe I haven't sprayed every inch of vacuum hoses. I only sprayed where I could see lines. The more I looked, the more I seen. The whistle noise is evident, I have a vacuum leak... I just have to find!

Also try along all the intake manifold joints where it bolts to the heads, and contacts the block. If you partially sucked an intake manifold gasket, that also can cause a vacuum leak.

You'll want to get shy of the WD-40 for vac. leak detection. WD40 contains silicon and this stuff is death to oxygen sensors.... thought you might like to know.

Kleen-Flo has an Air Intake System cleaner that should do just as well without running the risk of ancillary damage.

In the shop I use a small wand attached to a small propane cylinder with a flexible hose - by far the best method. You should be able to pick up one of these puppies from your local tool monger for about 20 coconuts.

vacuum leak

If you havent looked yet, try to check for a missing vacuum caps off the manifold, look behind too, its very hard to see so use your hand to feel. some of these caps tend to fall off.

I had the same problem. about a week ago i heard this wishing sound from my engine. Whenever i sould stop, the car jerked and wanted to die. after taking my truck to my dad's, who is a dm of a large auto "zone" type store. he found that i had a cap off. with his auto skills he found a twig and cleaned it off before he stuck it in the spot where the cap fell off. it worked fine until i got home to put a new cap on it.
the end
Matt
