Was thinking about adding a cold air kit and relocating it to draw behind the front right headlight (from driver's POV). This would require removing the old airbox and replacing with a mount to house the battery. I am pretty sure this would resemble the Ranger's intake position. What do you think? Is it a lot of work? Thanks in advance

It's been done by more than one person here...

Just get a 95+ intake tube to hook to your 4.0.

You can then relocate the battery to the driver's side front area, by removing the stock windshield washer fluid reservoir, and replacing it with a smaller washer fluid reservoir. Then get one of those batt mounting kits, or make a bracket yourself and mount it on the side there.

Yup I have done it on my 88 BII. I am running a KKM on the 95 Ranger intake tube. the filter sits right behind my pass headlight, above the stock BII battery tray. I however mounted my Optima on its side right where the old airbox used to be. I had to make a custom battery tray and bracket to do this, but it works great!

Optima batteries can be mounted in any position, even upside down, so thathelped me in my case to lay it on it's side.

Here's a pic..you can see if you look close...

Hey 410

That looks great:D

Thanks! I picked up an ARB compressor last week to run my locker, now I just gotta re-locate my charcoal canister and mount that sucker!! hahahaha it gets tricky under there........

My X has been modified for dual batteries, but it is basically the same thing as relocating the battery....

In the picture here, you can see how to relocate the stock washer fluid tank, and put a battery tray in its location...the washer tank is turned 90 dergrees, and is mounted to brackets on the new battery tray. The battery would be very easy to relocate here with the stock washer tank.....

Question answered. I'll pick up a batt tray and get to work. Thank you all.

Will I need to (or good time to) purchase new battery cables??

To relocate the battery to the other side of the truck you will need twice as long cables.....It is also a good idea to replace them if you can, it can't hurt anything....:D

You can also extend your existing batt cables by getting some of the linkups they use in car stereo installs. They attach to the terminals and let you make longer cables.
