Anyone else smell gas when their truck is off?

Everynow and then after driving my truck for a little, I get out and it smells like gas. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone know what might cause it?

YES. This has been a fairly common problem with many folks.

I had this problem for a year until I discovered a tiny pin hole in the fuel line ( metal line ) in front of the motor ( SOHC ). Had to replace the entire fuel line and that instantaly fixed it.

Others have had difficulties with the valves on the charcoal canister.

The only time I've smelt fuel is when my fuel pump was going....

Yes I also smell fuel from my fuel pump area.

i had the same problem about 5 months ago i always smelled gas but it turned out the gasket between the sending unit and gas tank (i think) was rotted and it was leaking through there so once that was fixed the smell was gone

The smell isn't that strong but when I get out and walk around the back I can smell it sometimes.

I was unable to locate the source of my "smell" leak for a very long time,

Sometimes the smell appeared to come from fuel tank area, sometimes from rear, and often from under hood.

Good luck in finding it....

4Wheelin, I beleive the smell comes from the fuel pump. I have the same smell.

every 330 miles or so i smell gas, but thats only when im at the gas station, so i have no way to help you at all.



but maybe check your fuel filter?

I had the sending unit on my X rust out. The guy at the shop told me it was the charcoal canister but I knew it wasnt.
