For those of you who may not know what homelink is, I beleive it is an option on the 99 and later explorers that allow you to copy the signal of garage door openers and gate openers. My buddy has the system in his 2001 Dakota and I've been jealous. I've been looking for an aftermarket system with no luck. I wanted to know if anyone has tried installing one from another explorer.

I did a search on "homelink" here and found a member with a 98 that was selling a visor with homelink from a 99. I sent him an email but never got a response. It was back in May that he was selling the stuff so I wasn't expecting much. I assume he used the visor in his 98 or at least made an attempt. I would assume all electronics would be located in the visor and all you would need is power to the unit which is already there because of the mirrors. From what I've read from the homelink site is that they sell to the car makers only. I may just check with the dealer and see how many appendages they want for the visor.

Well I checked with one of the local dealers and they want $262.31 for the visor with homelink system. I guess I'll keep ckecking with the salvage yards, because that was a little more than I was looking to pay. The more I think about it I could use the homelink system out of any vehicle as long as I can get it to mount and wire it up. I was just thinking the explorer one would be the easiest replacement.
