I have always had a problem with the temp. guage just barely rising off C , even in the hottest parts of summer. Today I pulled the stat to replace it and was surprised to find the markings on it that said it was a 92 degree stat. I have never heard of such and was wondering if anyone had. The part # is 91TM-8575-AA and it is a Motorcraft stat. The markings on top (stem side) is 92/106 and on the bi-metal is 92 SG. Help!:(
This pertains to a '96 X 4.0 .

Sure it isn't 192?

Anyway, you need a 192 or 195 thermostat.

I thought that it may be. Do you think they left the digit 1 off. I dunno. How would you explain the 92/106 markings stamped onto the flange? Has me confused. Know of anyshere I could run down the part #?

Maybe it's metric

92C would be 197F.

there you go. you have a Canadian thermostat.

Arent some (all) of the Motorcraft thermostats made in Germany?(i.e. Metric) I seem to remember this from replacing the one on my Ranger. I bought aftermarket (Napa) for the Explorer because the Motorcraft ones seem to have problems.

The service manual for 97 says the thermostat should begin to open at 89C (192F) and be fully open at 100C (212F). Im guessing the numbers on yours are just a little different 92/106 because of the different model yr.

Yep, the stat was made in Germany so your view is probably correct. Anyway, I installed a new NAPA stat and all is well. Happy. Happy. :) Thanks for the help, I'm glad I found this site. Great resource.
