I was wondering if anyone has ever put 8's in their back stock speaker holders. Any advice would help.

I did it was a bit of a pain in the ass but well worth it.First you have to have the right tools (jig-saw,dremel).Iused a kicker solobaric .Take the whole back panel off to remove the cover then use the speaker to measure how much you need to cut out then use the dremel to sand the opening to the right size.Of course your also going to need a seperate amp to push the sub.My setup is awsome wish I had pictures. All in all it's a fun project.

New amp?

Hi Jason,

I was interested in replacing the stock 6.5" with an Aftermarket 8" in the stock enclosure.

Do you really need an entirely new amp to drive it though? I thought the stock amp's 80-100W RMS would be enough for a high-sens Type I sub.

I guess I am wondering if there is enough room for the new sub and the sub amp in there. If there is I think I will just make due. Eventually I want a JL Stealth box anyway.

Could you let me know for what reason(s) you replaced the stock sub amp?

Thanks

I replaced the stock amp because I first replaced the stock head unit and I needed to by pass the amp so then I got another amp for a good deal at a SONY outlet store.Plus I really wouldn't know how to hook it up to the factory amp.

Ahh... okay. I still have my stock setup and am just wanting to switch out the 6.5" for the 8". I assume there is some sort of connector plug going to the stock sub with + and - wires and I can just cut the connector off and attach the bare wires to the new sub.

I think it's going to be a bear getting the new sub in the stock enclosure though, but hopefully I will get some better sound out of it. The JBL system isn't all that bad for a stock system. I already replaced all the door speakers. However, that stock amp is a major POS. It is causing static in my right rear door speaker and distorts some of my CDs (even if I play them at low vol).

It will have to make due though until I can afford to dump a couple thou into replacing the entire system.

Thanks for your help Jason.
