I had a Blaupunkt Cheyenne 7-8 years ago. It was a plain looking - all black - but built to last head unit. It performed quite well. Never had a problem with it. I don't know now if they still have that all black look to it.

they are very good HUs, however im not a fan of how they look.

this is what the HU looks like

My friend has a Heidleburg (sp?) CD51 in his 2000 Passat. It is a really nice HU. However, the looks aren't that great IMO.

Im buying the HU cuz of the features and sale price at crutchfield $229 :) best MP3 player i could find for that price range.....if any of you guys no of any else please tell me

Check out http://www.midwest-usa.com.

Also from Blaupunkt's site they list all their autherized Internet dealers at the bottom. http://www.blaupunktusa.com/warning/warning.asp

Just food for thought. I was just recently looking to get the Blaupunkt Austin for my car. The only reason I was going with Blaupunkt was that's the brand that comes with my 944. I as asking about them on a Porsche message board and most had nothing good to say about the build quality. Even Porsche quit using them when they starting making the Blaupunkt's in Malaysia.

..Then again lots of poeple never have problems with them.

BTW... I just got a Kenwood KDC-722 and love it.

We have a Blaupunkt Aspen HU and 10CD changer in my wife's Firebird. It's a pretty good unit. The two things that I find weak about it are the FM reception (my stock X HU has better FM reception) and it's bass response (HU without external amp). It really needs a separate amp to drive the low end. I have a Sony in my Sammy that has much better bass response and better FM reception.

I just picked up kenwood model#KDC-MP522 at best buy for 220 and thats installed too 260 with the 4 year everything warranty. And its a MP3 player

I recently have owned a Blaupunkt Casablanca (in a previous car) and a Blaupunkt Hollywood w/5 disc changer (In the Explorer). Both became troublesome within 3-12 months.

Casablanca:
-Volume control stopped functioning correctly after 9 months.
-Even if the internal amp is not being used, it runs VERY hot. After a long road trip (6+ hours) it gets hot enough it shuts off. I checked for problems in the wiring that may be causing a short, but that wasn't the problem.
-The display won't come on all the time, you have to tap the face plate a few times to get it to make "contact".

Hollywood:
-More display problems, as in the display shuts off from time to time.
-A few buttons on the face plate died.

5-Disc Indash Changer:
-Won't always recognize/read any CDs. Actually it was about 50/50, one day it works, next it doesn't. If you let the changer "warm-up" for 30 minutes or so, it would finally work.

Basically I was very unimpressed with the quality of the products. The head unit and changer in the Explorer ended up getting replaced with an Alpine CDA9813. The build quality is night and day...

i have had some of their subs and was very impressed, but i cant say as much about their HUs....i'm a pioneer man on that one, Pioneer Premier line that is. i own a DEHP740MP
