I was wondering if anyone has air shocks on their X. Or if it's even possible.
I just want a slight lift for the rear since mine sits about 1/2 inch lower than the front.
I asked at Checker Auto Parts and they said they only made them for 2wd Explorers. Weird. Is there any actual difference in the rear end of a 2 versus 4wd?
Also I started to think since my truck is lifted I'll probably need longer shocks or relocate my mounts.
If anyone can shed some light on this subject I would certainly appreciate it.
TIA

Rick

Air Shocks

I was just at Track Auto in Richmond Va today looking for shocks... The girl behind the counter told me they had air shocks, but they had no info on the specs. They were listed in thier computer database for my '93 frony and rear (she tried to tell me that if I bought them for the rear I had to buy them for the front to...he he he, don't think I will trust that judgement)... NAPA has some listed Online but they look real steep to me

I am looking for rear shocks for towing.

Hope this helps

Yes, this helps very much!
At least now I know they DO make them. And I see they are the same part# for 2 or 4wd.
But you have to buy them for the front too huh? LOL "And do you need any muffler bearings today sir?" hehe
Yea, $93.99 seems pretty high to me too.
Thanks for the info!!!
Rick

BTW I love your sig.
"Cougar Beanie On Dash" LOL

Hey speaking of muffler bearings.......I need some blinker fluid too.....ask that girl if she can get me some.

Yes!

I have airshocks on my '96 4wd. Think it's more or less standard here in Norway. But I don't know if it is any major differenses in the rear between the newer and older explorers. Maybe someone else knows about thatone..
Hope this helps.

Well Hi Diddly Do Good Neighbor!
Sorry couldn't help myself. :-)
Thanks for the infomation. How do you like them? Have you tried pumping them up and lifting it at all? Does the ride seem any rougher than a regular shock would?
Rick

Glad I could help!! Let me know what you end up getting.. I haven't decided yet on what kind I want. My Explorer passed inspection with the old ones so I''m not in a rush to replace them now.

I can't adjust my shocks manually...

Rick

The shocks I have are the kind that adjust them selves if I put in a lot of load(or jump up and down on the rearbumper). haven't really noticed anything unusual about their handling at all, but I've heard that I whould switch them out if I do any tough offroading.
If they're rougher than regular shocks...? I've actually never driven an Explorer without them, so I wouldn't know. As I mentioned before, I think they're part of the stock xlt-package here in Norway, so I'm sorry, I can't help you there..
The only thing I know, is that I do not know how they will hold up if I try to put in an addaleaf to lift my truck.. Ohwell...guess I'm gonna lift it anyway...Dead Link Removed

Check out Monroe's Max-Air. They have a good reputation for durability according to some other posts I have read. They cost a little more but like most things you will probably get what you pay for. Mike

Alright Mike, thanks for the info!

Hey NedFlanders...

What part of Norge do you live in? I was born in Trondheim and lived there for a while beefore moving to the US. I know it has nothing to do with air shocks, but at least I mentioned them in my post. :)

Hi DocVijay.. I live just outside Oslo. 'Was born, raised, and still live in Bærum. Work downtowv Oslo though. But I go to Trondheim quite often, as my girlfriends family comes from Trøndelag. Her father lives in Trondheim and her mother in Namsos(abt. 200 km further north).
Drop me an email if you'r going home sometime, and maybe we could meet if I'm going north at the same time.. Dead Link Removed

hey rick,

Do you wish you would have gone with a 3 inch body lift as opposed to the 2in.

just wondering cause im in serious debate between the two.

Ryan

Ryan,
No, I'm glad I went with the 2" instead of the 3. With the 2" about the only thing I had to move was the emergency brake cable and fan shroud. The 3" requires a few more things to be done. And it would have made an even bigger nightmare moving the bumpers up. It was hard enough to do it the 2 inches. And my front bumper still sits low. Plus that would be one more inch that would show the frame.
Also another inch would have made it harder to climb into the truck. My wife kinda complains now even. LOL
So, all in all I'm very glad I went with the 2 inch.
Rick

Thanks Rickster.
