I've been looking at those BTF UCA's for a while now. Any idea if they're compatible with stock ride height? Their website states they are "slightly longer than stock to accommodate negative camber issues associated with lift kits". I may dial the coil springs of the modded IFS setup to provide an extra 2" of lift up front, similar to a torsion twist. Aside from that I do not plan on lifting higher.
BTF UCA's...
Yes, they are perfectly fine with a stock ride height, just get the +/-4* camber bolt kit. Only benefit your going to get out of these for a stock height setup, is the stronger uniball joint, and worry free use.
They are most beneficial to use with a coil lift & large tires. Stronger, more room for alignments, more frame and coil clearance, and peace of mind. Don't have to have coils, to use them tho.
They are only slightly longer than stock, like 1/2". This is enough to correct the maxed out camber adjustment, to give you room to get the alignment done correctly, if you run a tall 33" & up. I couldn't get rid of negative camber on new 35's, until these was installed. I even had mine made a tad longer than what they make them normally. The bigger the tire, the more you gain negative camber. The upper arms are shorter than the lower arms, and you get negative camber on both, up & down travel.
If you do get them, go ahead and upgrade them to the stainless uniballs. The steel units will pit & rust after a couple years, just from humidity, and even if you coat them. The socket has a nylon type sleeve, that acts like a squeegee, and wipes the balls clean as it cycles. I replaced mine when that happened.
The only longer than stock cv axles that I know of that work, are long travel, which takes a long travel kit, which requires a few grand. RCV will custom make some stock length that will be bullet proof, but.... for a couple grand. I personally wouldn't run them, as the C/V is an $80 fuse-able link to the differential, if you lock it like I do. Open/LSD, would work great for the RCV unit's. That would be a great setup for our rigs, but man, High dollar D35 setup! Could do a 1 ton SAS for that much. lol
