I just got a new set of 4th gen tail lights for my b-day. I see that I need to add a socket for the upper light and change the socket over for the reverse light. Has anyone changed to these lights and if so where did you find the sockets for the reverse lights? The sockets for the upper light is just a side marker light socket and takes a 194 bulb. All 4 blades on that socket are the same size. The ones for the reverse lights are almost the same but 2 of the blades on the socket are smaller so a noraml side marker light socket won't work. I'm having problems finding the socket for the reverse lights.

I haven't yet but will someday. I heard that you have to remove a tab or something because the 4th gen tailights do not just slide right in. Not sure how to help you with the light issue:(

Found this in another thread it was posted by not8taxi, im sure he could help you if you have any more questions. Where did you get the tails from this is my next mod, I have been searching ebay but they are rarely on there. Make sure you post pics when you get them installed with a write up on how you did the wiring.

"wats up ....i did the 06 taillight swap on my 02 x after i cracked my rear taillight....the only thing u have to do is cut a lil of the body on top of the light...the reason is that the 06 taillight has the round part to it and it doesnt fit unless u trim off a lil....i trimmed it off ....primed and painted it black on my own...so far so good its been almost a yr ....as for the bulbs.....the brake/turn signal is the same so that plugs right in...the reverse u would have to cut the existing harness and change it to another one...bought a harness from pep boys....i believe the bulb u need is 914? its the same bulb found on the puddle lights of the mirrors...and for the third light on top...that just comes on when u put ur lights on...its a 194 bulb...i bought 2 harness' at the pep boys and tap the wire from the brake/turn signal bulb....its 3 wires on that harness but for the 194 bulb u tap off the 2 wires ....i hope i explained it good if u have any questions pm me goodluck "

I got them from a local Ford dealer. Besides being on the fire dept. full time I work as an auto mechanic at a local auto repair shop (ex-ford tech also). So I got them through the shop I work at and paid approx. $80 each instead of the normal $125 they cost from the dealership.

ghoster put the new tailights of an 06 or 07 on his i forgot what yr eddie baurer x he had i think it was like an 03 or 04 i am not to sure. But isnt ghoster sellin his eddie.

yeah..i knew he had them...but that's a sore subject with me....he told me he was gonna sell them to me...was waiting for the cost with shipping and every time i sent him a message to get the price i got no answer.

Is there much room in the reverse lights for hide-a-ways?

The 3rd gens do have room for hideaway strobes in the taillights.. I've seen first hand a few of them with them installed and seen the installation.

I have hide a ways in my 02 XLT for the Fire Department. The 4th gen taillights have a different design, and the reverse light looks smaller. The departments around here have gone away from strobes and gone with Vertex LED's or a halogen flasher.

all the 4th gen emergency response vehicles around here have grille mounted LEDs and wigwag kits.
