Thinking about getting a remote start for my 2000 Ex
I was looking at the crimestopper CS2006 starter/alarm/paging one like the one at autotoys.com but I've found it a lil bit cheaper. Anyone had any probs or know of any probs with remote starters and the securilock theft features

i have a starter & an aftermarket alarm (in the same unit-i think its an audiovox?). works excellent but very expensive. $475....ouch! something like 200 for the starter, 175 for alarm & 100 for relays.

installation required add'l relays to by-pass the coded key. the other option was to have another coded key made to install under dash. i think its $75 a key at ford.

2nd relay was for puddle lamps on outside mirrors. w/o relay, they wouldn't still work.

i love they system, but probably could have done it cheaper. friend w/ same X got just the starter & it works along w/ factory alarm. think they paid around $250?

gotta recommend it though, despite the cost.

I have the Code Alarm version and am very happy with it. It also turns on my rear window defogger if I like. I recommend it also.

rear defog turns on? thats awesome. i am so jealous.

actually, my complaint about the audiovox is no option to leave the car running if you stop on a quick errand. i either have to keep the keys in it or shut off, get out & re-auto start.

i think most other brands have that option.

yeah...mine has that option too.

SSIKORA -

i am getting a little off the subject, but can you explain how that option works. maybe mine has it but i just don't know how to use it?

thx in advance

While its running, put it in park, make sure your foot is off the brake, hold the start button again for like 3 secs, take keys out.

thanks.

maybe i'll try playing around w/ it. i am worried that it may try & restart the engine & damage my starter?

my autostart isn't very smart. i know one time when i ran out of gas it still kept trying to start the engine over & over. that wasn't fun!

lol...that sucks....mine has protection from that...if you start it with the remote you can get in it and turn and hold the key over and it wont crank.

mine has the starter protection but it is disabled. the installer told me there was a reason NOT to have it set up. i can't remember what the reason is, but sounded good at the time.

i've only made the mistake once

I av enot had the guts to try it - but I know Sears and TArget were selling kits - I am not sure who made them for about $200 - but you had to install it yourself.

I am a bit nervous aout it, but every winter I wish I had one as I only have a 1 car garage and my wife gets that, but she has to drive the Mini van.

Has anyobe installed their own remote starter? How tough is it?

doesn't Sams and Wal*Mart have one also? Like Buldog or something, I too would like to know how difficult it would be to install. I have a 94 if it makes any difference on the year.

I have the Crimestopper LCD Alarm/Remote Starter/Pager

I love my alarm, pager, starter all in one unit and it shows you what part of the vehicle was tamered with on the car on the remote. I can start it from about 1200 feet away. I started my truck at a local parking structure while I was still in the building on the other side of the structure and came to my truck and it was running. I can leave my truck running with no keys in the ignition and go into the gas station and lock my doors and my truck will run for 15 minutes. I love that option when I want to pick something up at the gas station.:D I also have the module to role up my windows if my windows are down and the alarm is armed it rolls up all my windows for me. I have the interior motion sensor if someone reaches into the truck window.

man, how much did that run ya...

It ran me $185

The alarm was $185 off of ebay and that was with shipping and then it costed me $300 to get installed because I had the window modules installed, scanners on my dash installed. It is a very time consuming job my buddy just put in my old alarm in his wifes truck and it took him about 7 hours to do it. I went to a professional alarm installing place here in Milwaukee and they got it done in about 5 hours.

I've got the viper alarm/remote start....

I can turn the truck on from quite a distance,as long as you have line of site.
I was fishing on one of the lakes locally late one evening, and from the middle of the lake,I thought I would try it out, I was able to turn it on{my lights came on}and then turn it off.it would have been 20 minutes before getting back to my truck !

This is what I'm looking at
Dead Link Removed

what else would be needed to get around the secruity in the key feature of the EX

Yep that is very similar to mine

Mine doesn't have a clock on it but other than that it is identical

I have a friend that runs a garage and he told me they are tedious to put in - he also said the only ones he has had problems with are the Bulldog units - it was a conversation in passing - the $300 to install a full featured unit is about what he charges.

If anyone puts one in please revive or post what you ran into and how it worked out. I will probably take the plunge, but I have a few other things I want to add before the remote start (front end protector and new exhaust).

they must be,I had an installer do mine, and the owner said he normally doesn't let anyone see this particular install due to the amount of wires all over the place.
he said he let a woman come in to get something from her new car while the tech was working and she started shaking due to the mess of wires !

he called it "that's my Baby" sickness.
