debutis,
What is am saying that the w7 can handle 5000 watts of 20 hertz pink noise played for 12 straight hours. I am not talking a few second burp. but 12 constent hours of 5000 watts. And the pole piece was so hot, water srayed on it instantly evaporated. we are talking several hundred degrees, JL didn't take a tempature tho.
I have also seen CV strokers handle 3000 watts before the tinsile fried.

The amp in question is a Crown 5000 which is a industreal amp used for pa systems, very happy to run at 1/16th of an ohm or less. Practicle application of the Crown 5000 one is used for the entire sound system at the indy 500 track. The Crown amps is not a common amp but would waste most all car amps with out breathing hard.

You are right a bad install can make even the best equipment in the world sound like crap.

We use crown amps at our theater at school and in the mobile rack... I can saw wow. I know W7s are nice, there are louder... but lets be fair, the W7s is probably the best around town high production sub if you want alot of clean sound out of one sub. There are a few others that can also fit the bill... but methinks I like the w7 the best.

a 12W7 in the HO box is about $900
the sub by itself is about $750

I use to have two 10" W7's in a sealed box with a RFbd1000a1 to each of them in my old X and it was a nice sound...

I have one 10" W7 in a sealed box powered by a JL Audio 500/1 in the Z06...i love it :)
