Just wondering if there is anything special I should know when changing my T-case, what extra I should be lubricating, what to lube it with, any suprises, etc. The truck is a standard transmission, '99 Sport.

Are you upgrading to a manual 1354 or just replacing stock with stock?

The swap should be straight forward.

IF you dont already know, the bolts that attach the rear driveshaft to the transfer case's rear output flange takes a 12-point 12mm socket. So have one of those before you start. They do take quite a bit of torque, especially if they have never been removed. So a 1/2"-drive socket (with an extension) would probably work better than a 3/8"-drive. Penetrating fluid a day before the swap helps too.

Should I buy a new gasket?

Technically, yes, but I've always had good luck using RTV to seal it.

If you have time, stop by and get the gasket.

If you're talking about the paper gasket between the tranny and T-case you don't absolutely have to replace it. It doesn't seal anything.
