This weekend really sucked for my X! decided to change my front brakes as they were degraded horribly, so I bought new rotors, calipers, master cylinder and pads. The repair went without a hitch and the bleeding was done on all four wheels. I even intentionally changed the color of the brake fluid so I could notice when all used fluid was gone. Soooo, when I finished I took it around the block and it drove around just perfect...but my stupid check rear antilock brake light activated as did my parking brake light. We checked the computer and it gave me the code 5..1..1.. which indicated a RAM error- my Apten was fried. In the past six months, my engine has been pinging like a son of a gun and been getting about 3 mpg lower than usual (it usally gets about 20 mpg). I took the chip out and I'm back to 20.2 mpg and no knocking, but the brake light is still on. No computer codes, just the light, any suggestions? The lines were all re-bled and everything was checked out, but why would the rear brakes have changed, they weren't even touched?
Just FYI, when I went up to the lake with my girl, the front brakes smoked quite a bit going down hill but my dad and I both think it was just the residual oil from the machining process, hasn't smoked since. WHen I came back to my house my front rotor temperature was about 200 degrees F...is that high? Thanks all!
