'97 Eddie Bauer
Hey all,

I just recently got my first Explorer. It's a '97 Eddie Bauer and it's absolutely loaded and absolutely one of the best vehicles I've ever had. The truck is mint inside and out cosmetically, electrically and mechanically and it has options I didn't even know they made!

The only problem I seem to be having so far is with the Air Ride Control system. Every now and again I get a message on the info screen saying "Air Ride Switch is Off". Now I've checked the owner's manual to no avail and I've searched around this site; I know the switch SHOULD be in the left-rear quarter-panel where the jack is stored, but I can't find anything that looks like a switch back there.

So, can somebody tell me what the switch is supposed to look like and EXACTLY where it is supposed to be located? I climbed under the truck today and it looks like it actually has non-air aftermarket shocks on it, so I'm wondering if someone did a hack-job on the electrical system to eliminate the air ride.

Thanks a bunch!!!

Thanks!!!

That helped a ton. Okay, so my switch is definitely NOT there. Now I guess I'll have to see what the PO did with the wiring....

Thanks again!

glad to help...

i wonder what was done with your truck..on the EBs it was a option. but i think they all used the same message center. so maybe somthing got crossed there..idk

Okay...so does that mean I could possibly have NOT had the option and yet I'm getting a generic air-ride message that doesn't pertain to my truck???

The other thing that's odd is that the two 4x4 lights on the dash blink when I use the remote starter to start the vehicle, but they've never once come on when I start the vehicle with the key. ???

that was an idea..but idk you might have had it and they other owner might have ditched it. or you might not have had it at all.

i dont know about the 4x4 lights..thats weird..mine acts the same with the remote start or with the key. weird..lol

I would imagine the air ride shocks are very $$$.. As such the previous owner may have just disabled the system and installed regular shocks.
