- 1996 Ford Explorer UN
Hi Ho Ford owners. Les B at Durack 4077 a suburb of Brisbane the capital of the State of Queensland, Australia the 'Sunshine State', being a Queenslander is special, it is us against the rest at almpst everything, especially during the Rugby League footy season.
I am an oldie of 81 years young, been there and done that and still doing it.
I own 1996 UN model 1996 Ford Explorer XLT station wagon, with a V6 4 litre engine, auto transmission, 4WD on demand.
It has been a fantastic car with well over 350,000 kilometres on the clock now.
Like many other Explorers in Oz, their nick name was 'Exploders', due to the00 fact that the rear timing chain would fly apart and ruin the motor.
I was lucky , when mine started to rattle at about 175,000Ks, I took it back to my Ford dealer and Ford replaced the motor under warranty with an upgraded model, that has caused no trouble at all apart from the crankshaft sensor falling part.
It still has plenty of punch, I have never had it on a beach or been rock climbing, but it has seen plenty of dirt roads out and about on our vast island continent.
But, sorry I must use that term, for some it is a scary word.
But now I have a problem, the ABS has carked it, the electronic gadget has a had coil fail, rendering it inoperative.
And because it is now a veteran Ford there is no new spare parts for this model.
The question I ask of the Forum is, my Explorer was in the last shipment of Made in the USA turnkey models to come to our shores, a used second hand replacement is my only alternative, given the different models, my question is, are all the ABS modules the same but with different part numbers for each ensuing model or are they different technically from model to model 1993 to 1999? Any advice from the Forum would be welcome. Thanks a lot.
