Hey guys I have an 01 Explorer Sport Trac that has quite a few issues. I was curious as to if you guys know of any common link that might be the root cause of the majority of my problems. (Electrical)

Here are the issues:
-4x4 not working (no dash indicator when switch is turned)
-Chiming sound continues randomly for approx. a minute after vehicle is
started.
-Rear power window does not work
-Front interior dome light does not work but the rear one does
-Reverse tail lights do not come on
-Overdrive button does not work anymore

I bought a used GEM module hoping that it might work but it did not fix anything. I haven't had it programmed to the vehicle bc I wasn't sure if It had to be. Some ppl say yes and some say no. Any ideas on what might be going on?

for at least some of your problems, check fuse #27. it controls the OD switch, backup lights, Autolock, the rear defroster and maybe some other things. fuse #27 was missing on my '00 Mountaineer, so replacing it fixed lots of problems. the front dome light can be tricky if the bulbs no longer touch the ribbon/wire which is a fairly common problem. carefully resetting the bulbs sometimes helps, or you can convert to LED bulbs.

led conversion? how is this possible? i have same issue with my map lights cheap plastic metal wire broke

there's a thread on here somewhere on doing it. try searching for it, it's not hard to do. you can probably find everything you need at Radio Shack.

absolutely check your fuses like koda2000 said. after that I would check the ground wire on the driver's door (this caused issues on my '97). and finally start checking individual bulbs.

one last note... is it just the 4x4 indicator thats an issue or is it actually not engaging 4 wheel drive?

Thanks for the input. Checking fuses was the first thing I did back when I first started messing with it and they all checked out fine. Ill double check it though in case I missed something.

The 4x4 doesnt engage at all. Nothing at all happens when the switch it turned.

don't just check the fuses to make sure they're good. that's what i did and didn't realize i had a missing fuse (#27). it wasn't until someone else reported similar problems and found this fuse was the cause before i thought to check for missing fuses, and don't forget to check the ones in the power distribution box too.

Roger that. Thats a good point. I pulled up a fuse box diagram to try to narrow it down back when I did it but didnt find anything. Ill def recheck it all though for sure.
