I have been searching for line boring shops and if shops are finding reasons for bushing failures or dumping fluid on the A4LD. A survey so to speak. Of course none of them ever heard of the miss-bored bushing from Ford.

But what I did find was that when the transmission was rebuilt with a Blue TC, it was manufactured by ATC and they are all bad. Their runout is way past specs and they cause multiple failure problems.

Has there been feedback on this TC being something to stay away from? What other types are also poorly remanufactured?

The PDQ Trans Parts in Sacramento are supposed to be high quality and they are under $200.

An AAMCO location in Eugene, Oregon told me. The manager said they have stopped using them as a result of the extremely high percentage of comebacks.

Now maybe that company isn't the only one that paints the TC blue, but the particular ones stated are the unreliable ones, especially when their tested runout is way out of spec for reman.

How many miles do you have on the Explorer? How did you accumulate so many miles on the Saturn?

I have about 150,000 miles. I got it from my nephew whose friend had trashed the trans and other stuff. I am bringing it back and it has spent most of the last 6 months off it's wheels. I am now using a '92 trans. Installed it, puttered around, short highway runs, then went over a 5,000 ft pass. BAM! piddled all over the road out the front seal. Made a nice James Bond type oil mist and smoke screen. It cooled down, dumped in a couple quarts, drove onto trailor w/o leaks. Now the TC out, wear on shaft that I can feel.

The other question about my Saturn. I keep up on sensors and other stuff replacing them. I left oil cap off it at a rest stop in Calif, drove a bunch down the hwy, lost 2 quarts. My son baja tested it, won the race, plowed a small pine, empty radiator for a couple miles to bring back home. Engine still lasted. 460,000 replaced with factory engine, even though old one still was fine, it just couldn't pull the mountain pass without straining.

tbars4: I haven't gotten the new TC yet, don't know the color.
