Keep in mind that the stock BMW air filter is probably a hundred times the quality of what the stock Ford filter is...

I am not sure what the BMW filter is. However, I could see his point. You really have to keep the "Free Flowing" filters clean. I usually clean mine about every 12,000 miles.

One of my dad's cars is an M3, glad he didn't get a K&N for it. Anyway, the test may not be fair. The M3 is the highest performance 3 series, and shares less parts with a 3 series than you would think. The Explorer is just a SUV, not a special performance vehicle like the Lightning, and also decently less expensive than a M3 is. Therefore to make a fair comparison you would have to take an average car, say a Camry, and test it's air filter vs a K&N-style cotton filter. Just my $.02

yea, the bimmer filter is obviously gonna be better. hell, the stock paper xplo filter has like, what, 6 pleats?lol

anyway, i gained 75hp with my K&N...plus nitrous.

Know what? I dont care...
The stock filter doesnt "sound" anywhere as good as the K & N. If sound is all the benefit I get out of a K & N its OK with me.
