Hey,

what does the tcase yoke of an explorer front CV driveshaft look like? is it the flat style or the u-shaped style? (if that poor description makes any sense?

it's a long story but basically i want to run an explorer front cv DS in the rear of my CJ5. i'm in a rush trying to get this done by the weekend. i ordered a new yoke for my tcase before i actually had the DS. i order the u-shaped style yoke, but when i talked to the guy i was planning to get the DS from, he said his used the flat style, which really sucks.

so i'm headed to a u-pull-it salvage yard this afternoon after work with hopes of finding something that will work. any suggestions??

do any years of Explorers use the u-shaped yoke? do you know of any other vehicles that have a strong CV style DS with 1310 sized ujoints??

thanks in advance,
bigmac

Try a Jeep Cherokee front drive shaft. I know many people use them as a rear driveshaft when doing a lot of lift.

Hey,

my hesitation in doing that is that they XJ front DS's aren't as strong. i've got a 360 V8, granny low tranny, 4.56 gears, and 35x14.50 Boggers. i really don't want to be snapping driveshafts every time i get on it. thanks though, i do appreciate any suggestions.

thanks,

Hence why us Explorer owners affectionately refer to them as HEEPS :D

Yes I had to go there.

Hey,

haha, well i must admit, i'm a little nervous about running parts off an exploder. :D

so today i went junk yard shopping. i took my new yoke with me and some tools and started browsing. found an explorer with a decent from DS, but the thing i failed to really give consideration to was that none of the vehicles have wheels on them any more, they just sit on the rotors, leaving very little room to work. so before i went hunting down bubba on the forklift, i figured i'd looked around a little and see if there was one easier to get to. i walked not more than 20ft and what do i find laying on the ground in perfect condition??? you guessed it, my new front DS. it's straight, joint seems good, and i didn't even have to crawl around in the weeds to get it or turn one bolt. and it even fits the style yoke i bought! almost too good to be true, lol. ne ways, i scored the DS for $50 and went home happy. tomorrow it goes to the driveshaft shop to get shortened. talk about a lucky day.... lol.

thanks for y'alls help.

happy trails,
bigmac
