At which mileage did you replace your heater core? You should get 100,000-150,000 miles for one right?

Mine in my Ranger ('92) lasted about 75k or so.

Are you talking about the little radiator type thing that gives you hot air???

I wouldn't replace it til it breaks. I 've got 170,000 miles, no issues.

i agree if it ain't broke don't fix it.
my 92 has 130k and the heat stilll works great.........some times a bit too good :)

I'm at 165k. My wife complains that it takes BamBam way too long to heat up in the winter, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It's a big, heavy 4.0 L and she's used to her little, light-weight toyota that gets hot in a couple of minutes.

I'd say the right time to replace the heater core is when you crank up the heater and get antifreeze on your shoes. :P

My heater core put antifreeze in my shoes (and all over the windows and such) last summer at 140-150K miles.

Ours was spitting water out (which goes onto the ground if the drain in your heater box is working) and was fogging up the windows (you get a little steam out of the dash vents) at somewhere near 200k.. It was between 180k and 230k, just not sure where.. it was a long time ago.

im from alaska...and it gets 60 below 0....tell your wife...there is more interior room inside that X to warm up than a coupe with a smaller interior...believe that cuz it takes about 30 min. to get it all toasty in my X than 15 min. in my eclipse

I replaced mine at 120,000 miles in my '95. talk about a major PITA! guess it could have been worse, I could have done it on my old '6000 or Chevelle and it'd been just as tough. "Step 1. Remove interior"

I had to replace mine at about 135k. I either did something wrong or it was a bad core because I had to change it again a few months after that, I was pissed.

Good news is you have a first gen, it is only like a 30 min job, and the new core is cheap.

Mine made 190K... and replacement on my 92 was a piece of cake. I gave the Ford engineers high marks for the design that year. Took me less than 30 mins.

I just had mine replaced at 132k.
