ok i don't know much about car audio. I have a 40X4 JVC El Kameleon HU and two pioneer 180 watt 3 ways up front and 2 pioneer 200 watt 2 ways in the back. What could i do for an amp and some subs that wouldn't break the bank. I found audiobahn 12" subs with a 500 watt RMS for 60 each. Is that a good buy? and what should i do for an amp? Also what does RMS mean?

I have the same HU! :)
What model Audiobahn subs did you find? Personally, I like the Audiobahn subwoofers... (Check my sig). RMS means "Root Mean Squared", and basically what it is is how many watts a sub can have fed to it constantly... Normally, giving them 80% of the manufacturer's RMS rating is sufficient, and if you give them more than their RMS rating, you risk blowing them. Check eBay for good deals on amps... As soon as we know which model subs you are looking at, we can provide amp suggestions, since things like their impedance, number of voice coils, etc. is important in choosing an amp.

i dont know what RMS mean but i do know that autobahn is a very good system if you want a good hit for a cheap price go to wal-mart get the peiner 12's 450 watt impp there like 2 for100 and go to best buy get the rockford fosgate 150x2 if you bridge them theyll raddle the truck to peices

are those any good? and also i don't wanna rattle the windows on my car necessarily but i want some good clean bass. assuming i go with audiobahn subs then what amp? B94Sport - would you recommend these subs? i've heard good stuff about audiobahn but don't know which ones to choose.

Just check out some review and they seem to be pretty good subs for the $. Heres the link

Also check out thezeb.com they are having some huge sales on older Audiobahn equipment.

http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/audiobahn_specials.html

Just a word of advice dont forget to add in shipping since some places charge on the shipments weight, thezeb's shipping price is 6.95 for everything also the A2800E amp (on the sale page at thezeb im getting it to power my 10" Audiobahn sub) will be perfect for you it will put out 200x2 @4ohms but it will really be about 250x2 since they underate their amps and are rated around 12.4volts your X will put out about 14.4volts

I know I may get bashed for saying this, but you can't beat Bazooka subs for the price. I'm not talking about the tubes, I'm talking about the raw woofers. The El 1204, hit very hard, I would say about like an HE2, but much lower in cost. Bazooka makes some quality stuff at low prices. If you look online, you should be able to get them for about 30-50 per sub. Don't know much about the amps, but I do have the subs and I am VERY pleased with them!

I use to have a pair of bazooka 1204s also and for 65 bux each you cant beat it, or you can :) I really liked them but sold them to a friend to get some $ to get a for powerfull system. They also only need aproxx 1cuft each, when you put the sub in it will be about .85-.90 cuft box and they did hit hard! Im not saying there "the best" but there good for a cheap, good sounding system. Check out my sig to see them (page 2 i think)

one more question....is it better to buy a box or make one? never made one before, is it hard?

These always a first time for everything I built my 1st box about 3-4 months ago and it was farily easyim going on my 3rd some time within the month. But if you do dicide to do it your self make sure you have the tools, which include, skill saws, jigsaw, etc. check out www.teamrocs.com and then go to technical and then look for box building help. If you dicide to buy one check out www.speakerhole.com their boxes are from $40 to 60$ shipped (for most single)

yeah woody i checked out your setup...looks about the same as what i wanna do. are you happy with it?

Yea it was pretty easy to do, took about 5 hours to compete, i didnt know i had a power skill saw in the shed, i had to use a rechargable one :) But yea i worked nice, just make it out of 3/4 mdf ($20 home depot huge piece, it has to stick out out the rear hatch door. Then seal the pieces together with liquid nails. Drill and put some wood screws in every 3-4". And seal the inside with caulk. Put the piece that you will cut hole(s) out for the subs on last. Then try to seal the rest with caulk. Wait a day then carpet (or what im gonna so is sand it till its a really light brown). Put your subs in and get ready to bump to some Xtream LowZ! :)
