First post here!

I have just bought a new JVC head unit with bluetooth and IPOD capabilities and was thinking of also adding new speakers to the set. I had a chat with the mechanics who would do the installation and they informed me that the Ford speaker sizes are 'non-standard' and so I would need to buy extra special speakers (and surprise surprise, extra special expensive as well).

Anyway, two questions really, I don't believe them for a minute but want confirmation that this is or is not the case. I have found out that the speaker size is 5.5"x7.5" and I have seen that there are quite a few manufacturers with this size of speaker.

Secondly do I actually need to change the speakers or would they be good enough for the job? I am no audio-phile but having spent quite a bit on the new unit I would like the speakers to be of an equal standard.

My current factory fitted unit is AM/FM, 6xCD changer with MP3 capability.

Many thanks for any advice, help, comments that anyone may be able to lend!

Happy new year.

i would get new speakers if i were you. you dont have to spend a bundle on them to get something better than stock. also, you can get 5.25" or 6.5" round speakers and get adapters that will allow those to fit in the 5x7 spot. if i were you, i would go to a place where they have a bunch of speakers on display, that you can listen to. listen to all of them in your price range with different types of music and chose whichever sounds best to you. remember that they are going in YOUR car and YOU will be the one listening to them more than anyone else so get what YOU think sounds the best.
