Good morning fellas,

I have just recently installed a 500 watt memphis amp and one JL 12 into my 2002 ford explorer XLS. I have noticed now that my car has been stalling out lately while driving. I am pretty certain its the alternator not pumping enough energy unless someone here can steer me in a different direction. I would just like to know what type of alternator would be the best to produce the necessary output level for this sound system?

Thanks

Welcome to the boards!

Wasn't doing that before the amp/sub install? I'm no expert, but it seems odd to me at least that 500 watts would cause issues.

I have had minor stalls before putting it in, it was usually just on start-up, sometimes would have to crank it twice, but nothing major. Battery is two years old. My buddy said I may have to get an optima battery but any other opinons would help

500 watts wouldn't cause that at all, if your alternator was bad, your battery wouldn't charge, causing the dash lights to illuminate, and the truck running poorly, has your battery completely died yet? As in not being able to start the truck
