Audiobahn SUCKS!

ive come to this conclusion through all 3 of the subs i have had from them and they have all made the same noise when i have it cranked, like there is somethin against the cone. im ditchin this stupid thing. what does everyone that is gonna stand up to my abuse and 600 watts RMS of power?

600rms and its blowing out? from what i here audiobahn is good. well i would get a stroker the 12 is 1000rms, or get one of those kicker L7 solo barics hell there are tons of good subs that will handle that depends on two things money and what kind of music you like. just my .02

no i cant crank it without it sounding like SH**, im goin to an audio shop tommorow an have em check it out, this really pisses my off, because this is my THIRD sub from these morons. one guy told me im sendin to much power to it, but its freikin 700 watt RMS sub. im so pissed its not even funny!!

damn hate to here that mabe your box is to small for the sub? or mabe its not enough power ive read you want to get rms or a little over. mabe leenjen will chime in and help out

maybe the amp?

What type of amp do you have? If the amp is 600 watts peak then cranking it up all the way could cause distortion from the amp. I have two audiobahn subs (i think they are the same as yours, 12" 700 watt rms) and havent had any problems. Try powering it with another amp to make sure that the amp isnt the problem. It could be the gains on your amp too. Just tryin to list possible causes of your problem.

yeah i hadnt thought about the gain, my amp runs at 606 RMS, the box is right in the middle of spectrum for the size. my amp is a RF bd500.1 ill mess with my gain some when i get a chance, though its kinda hard to get to it.

ok, let us know how it goes, also, i read another thread on here earlier today about how someone was hooking their sub up wrong because of the dual voice coils and had blown 2 already, you might want to check to see if your wiring is right.

yeah that was prob me, Dead Link Removed ? but this time i have it right, and i even took it to an authorized audiobahn dealer to make sure.

Dude, that's pretty much BS to hook up (2) subs incorrectly and blow them and then claim Audiobahn SUCKS! Now that you're on your third, you might want to eliminate the amp (as suggested above) as the cause or anything else that is related before trashing an otherwise outstanding name in the car audio business.


...And if, by chance, there is something wrong with the sub, I doubt Audiobahn is not going to support their product IF you contact them.

yeah thats the thing, all of these subs have made the same noise, no one seems to know what it is. i found out today that on the new AW1200Q the gain needs to be set really high, so maybe that will solve my problems.

Who told you that? GAIN ISN"T a volume control. it is used to match the inputs of the amp to the output of the h/u. What is the RCA preout voltage on your deck and how high are your gains?

I'm not against Audiobahn, but I will say I wasnt happy with the (2) 120SX subs I had, running off of my RF 800.2. The HX2s I have sound much better, but then again, maybe that isnt a fair comparison. Just some thoughts.

hmm, Well I can tell ya, I am not totally in to audiobahn, but anyhow what kind of sub break in procedure do you follow? If you skip out on this part you will wreck the voice coil. I have some 15 inch Kicker L7's comming along- I will install them soon- they sound better than most 12 inch sus of any make.

actually the gain does control your volume, if you mess with it and turn it down the sound will go with it. its 5.5 volt preout.

Perhaps the sound you're hearing is the sub reaching the point of over-excursion. When you decide how much power to give an Audiobahn sub you gotta be smart about it, you've gotta understand their language. My sub, alum12x, is recommended that I give it 1000watts rms!! You've got to be a dumbass to try and give it that much, I am sending it ~550 rms and it pounds loud as sh*t. When audiobahn says 1000 watts rms they really mean 1000 watts max. With that in mind, if I were you I would send your sub no more than 400 rms.My advice as to what you should do is to send your DVC 4 ohm sub back and get a SVC sub so that you can wire it in a 4 ohm series load. That way your sub would be getting just a little over 300, and I am almost certain it would sound better. Also another quick question, did you build your own box?
