Can someone please help me locate which fuses control the auto 4wd on my 2002 explorer xlt 4x4? I do not have an owners manual and google searching has not yielded any results. Thanks in advance.

I can get them for you when I get home tonight. In the meantime:

If you don't have an owner's manual, Dead Link Removed.

So from the provided link it would appear as though a low current 5A (tan) fuse in location 12 and two hich current 20A (Yellow) mini fuses located in 17 and 18. Can anyone confirm this? I just want to make sure because I am trying to disable the auto 4x4. I am in need of putting on the spare tire and the spare is 1 size smaller than all of my other tires. Thanks.

Correct, fuses #17 & #18 to disable the auto 4x4. I don't have the post links for you, but I got that info from this web site nearly 2 years ago and have it written down in my Haynes Manual. There are old posts on this in the forum with that info, just would have to track them down.

Edit: check out the link below and look at post #10 by "GIJOECAM" where he mentions that fuses #17 & 18 control power to the 4x4 control module. This isn't the old post where I got mu information from, but it is similar in regards to the fuses. It is what I could find in a few minutes of looking.

Thanks for confirming this. Do you know if fuse #12 (5A) also needs to be removed?

Your welcome and don't know anything about fuse #12, but it was fuses #17 & #18 that I originally read about that need pulling to disable the auto 4x4 system. Didn't see anything mentioned about fuse #12. Don't think you need to pull that one. BTW, fuses #17 & 18 are in the main fuse box in the engine compartment on the fender well.

I removed 17 & 18 & now the 4Low light is on all the time. Is this normal?

Cool. Just did a test drive and everything looks copacetic. I will keep an eye on everything. Thanks everyone for your help!
