Auto Hub Removal

I have recently picked up a parts truck that has working auto hubs and shift motor. The shift motor I know how to get off, remove the bolts, unplug the connection and Im not. Im not sure what is involved in removing the hubs. Id like to do this as Ive read they are prone to failure and though i think the ones on the truck Im fixing work, it would be nice to have spares to save money. Anyone have a how to or a pictorial? Also do I need any special tools to do this?

The socket that you need is basically an oversized hex socket, with fairly thin walls. Don't quote me, but 2 3/8 inches sounds like the approximate size.

Very important: The correct socket for the auto hubs does NOT have teeth sticking out of the end of it. Lots of guys working at lots of parts stores will get this wrong (at least, that's been my experience).

Ill let you know Mad Explorer if I need a had. Glaciers how to should have given me enough of what I am looking for. I dont need the bearings right, just the inner hub assembly and the half ring

Hi Madexplorer93. Your 93 socket has teeth for the axle nut with auto hubs? I didn't know they changed that, my 94 definitely does not, and the socket size is much bigger.

Only manual hubs have the round nut with slots for the teeth in the removal socket.

Only Auto hubs have the 6 point hex socket.

Year does not matter.

I'm confused. That's exactly what I said...

All the sockets that I've been shown with the teeth have been too small (in diameter) to work on the auto hubs.

Here in canada i have a auto hubs its a 2 3/8" big box....you need a pen-style magnet to remove the small locking jey rom the nut then this socket to remove the nut itself.I paid around 35$ at my auto part. The "OTC" tool company produce it...its a big black box that fit on a 3/4 drive ratchet.
