So my hubs are trying to engage. Truck is not in four wheel drive. Question I have is there anything I can do to my hubs till I get the time to put my manueal ones in? Will my hubs do any serios damage if I do keep driving with them.

Greetings, have you done any searches? There is a good DIY on hub fixes...

If you need to you can remove the wheels, then the hubs, you can then simply remove the cam section off the hub. That'll disable them.

I'll bet you can fix them though. First, they need to be clean, not packed with grease. Remove them, clean them, then lubricate with ATF.

If you still have trouble look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149326&highlight=auto+hub

Lots of good info.

Thanks dude. I'll do that till I get timem to replace them

Passenger Side auto hub not working

I am new to the forum and 4WD. My 1994 ranger that I purchased last year will not engage 4WD. The transfer case seems to engage (I hear something) but not 4WD. I checked the rear specs and it is an open rear model 4.0 L engine. I did the axle rotation check and the passenger side will not lock. However, it appears as if the drivers side does. If one of the two hubs are not locking, I assume that the 4WD will not engage at all. Is that a correct assumption? Is it unusual to just replace one of the two hubs? I found a replacement for under $200.00 and I think I can get a new one even cheaper. Also, before I buy a replacement, I am thinking of pulling the hub and trying the cleaning routine. Is there something in particular I should look for that might be broken while I have it off?

Thanks so much. Discovering this forum is a godsend!

Do a manual hub conversion, you'll be glad you did. No more weak unreliable POS autos, and you can use 2 low if you need to.
