I have a 1998 Explorer V6 4.0 in the UK and notice that the auto shift lever is a pain to unlock when cold. Once freed off with a lot of patience and wiggling all is fine untill cold again.
I assume that this is just a case of adjustment of the interlock? Is this easy and if so any advice would be well recieved. Or do I need to get the dealer to sort it?
Thanks
Matthew

Matt:

I don't think I can help you with your auto tranny issue, but I wonder if you could help us with something: Do you know if there are euro-spec headlights available for the 2001 Explorer Sport/Sport Tracs?

Euro spec headlights

I will go and look at a new Explorer for you in the UK. However what do you call Euro spec headlights? I guess thats all we have in Europe and I thought that they where all the same. Tell me what to look for and I will try to help, bear in mind though that our headlights dip the wrong way for you guys.

In the US, we are required to use D.O.T. spec headlight lenses/reflectors which spread light up for overhead signs and across the road in a wide path. This disipates the light and is not very efficient. The european spec lamps direct light in front of the driver with a beam spread to the right side of the road for roadside signs. In all, the Euro spec lights are much more efficient.

Take a look at the 2001 Sport/Sport Trac and if there is a reference to D.O.T. anywhere on there, they are the same as what we have here.

BTW, if you need anything from this side of the pond, let me know if I can help!
