auto tranny stutter at 4th gear

hey guys, my auto 97 awd explorer v8 seems to not like going from third to fourth gear somertimes. it shifts, but the car stutters or vibrates in the process, sometimes worse than others, but its only that gear. any ideas?

You are describing a shudder. Try replacing the fluid, make sure you use Mercon V and add some Lubegard in the process. Betcha your problem goes away.

where do i get lubegard, how much is it, and how do i add it, jsut with the fluids? thanks alot for the help. ill keep ya posted to see if it worked, thanks for ur response

You can buy it (you want the RED) at Bulkpart.com, or any local transmission supplier (transstar for example) should have it. Keep us posted.

can anyone give me directions on how to flush and fill trans fluid and change filter myself? is it easy? how do i add lubegard? just in with the fluids?

There are several good threads on here regarding flushing the system. Just add lubegard in with the new transmission fluid.
