My friend has a 94 explorer, and his auto hubs aren't locking any more. I looked for the parts on fordpartsnetwork.com, and they show the auto locking hub control for $255, and a locking hub control repair kit for $22. what is the differnce? what is in the entire kit that isn't in the repair kit? How can you tell which one you need?

is he willing to switch to manual hubs? i did and was much better..... the autolocking hub is the whole assemply, like plug and play and that $235 is for one side only.....

i replaced mine with manuals for $200 for both hubs and the conversion kit...

the $22 is the repair kit, it requires taking apart the current autohub and rebuiling its internals given the most commonly broken parts

the autohub was just not a very stout design, my manuals have never let me down.....

Id go with manuals also. I am going to do the conversion to mine. It will save you in the long run.

I don't remember the name of the site, something like 4x4wholesale.com or something like that. I paid just under $200 for both manuals and the conversion kit. Not to mention that the socket for getting the spindle off is a helluva lot cheaper.

I just switched to manuals on the weekend, and it was a lot cheaper (well over $300 CAD), than replacing the auto hubs, and very easy to do.

Kris Guilbauex(sp) sells them here for much cheaper.....

Ooops I meant that putting manuals on SAVED me well over $300.
I live in Canada, but ordered mine from the states (Garry's Automotive in Galion, OH / 419-947-3176). The e-mail is gakasap@bright.net.
They cost me less than $250 CAD (less than $200 USD), for the hubs, conversion kit and shipping, which was actually $175 cheaper than I could buy them for up here.
