Hello all. I have spent all my time here so far in the transmission department, now that that is fixed I would rather be over here.....99 Sport, 5speed Auto, 72000miles. 1-Recently the Auto door unlock has been acting up. I have to push the button 3-4 times for the doors to lock and unlock. 2-When I put my key into the driver side door (the expensive one with the chip), I have to hold it in there for a few seconds before it will turn to unlock the door. 3-The keypad on the drivers side for the door unlock does not work anymore, it doesnt even light up.

I was looking through the owners manuel but I couldnt really figure out which fuse it could be, assuming it is just a fuse (in car maybe fuse 18?).... I have already searched the threads but couldnt find any complete ones with answers. Thank you all.

when you press the button to lock / unlock during the "failed" attempts, do you any "mechanicals" trying to function or is there just silence or than the clicking of the buttons?

complete silence like they are not even putting any effort into it.

Sounds like your RAP module is "out of whack". In 96 drawings, the fuse is 12 but you do need to check all your fuses for your year. Try resetting by pulling the appropriate fuse.

Pulled the two fuses I thought were it, RAP fuse and Auto Unlock Fuse. Both looked good but I will still replace them after work. It seems to work a little bit better when unlocking/locking from the inside, but the keypad on the outside of the drivers door still does not work. I know I have the right code. It used to light up as soon as you touched just one button on the keypad but now it doesnt even do that? Im stumped.

You need to isolate what you are doing. First off, use consistent terms. Locking / unlocking from the inside buttons... this works for all doors and from all buttons (ie. driver, passenger, cargo). If so then move onto the remote .... this is not "autolocking / autounlocking" which is a feature dealing with your key in the switch. Does your remote operate all locks? If so, then you can move specifically to your autolocking/autounlocking feature which can be enabled and disabled via a number of "turn key off / on plus some other stuff... moon, run around vehicle... etc" ... :-). Make the sure first checks are all complete and functional otherwise, you will be chasing your tail and we'll be running after you.

I can't help much with your keypad as my 96 doesn't show or have that option... but I suspect a wiring issue at your driver's door column.

Im sorry I thought I was being clear.

99 Sport (2 door), 4.0 auto, 72000miles

I do not have a remote unlock/lock (keychain thingy). strickley key or keypad on driver side door (outside).

The keypad was a big concern so if anyone else has a keypad and had problems please help.

When i put my key into the driver side door i cannot (when locked) turn the key right away. I have to hold it in there for about 5 seconds and sometimes jiggle it before it unlocks. And that is only for unlocking the driver side door.

When unlocking/locking from the inside driver side door button i have to press it up to four times sometimes for it to work. Untill it works it make no noise just the click of the button being pressed. It does not sound like it is trying to unlock/lock.

When unlocking/locking from the inside passenger door button it always works. haha this must be this isolation you speak of...

When unlocking/locking from the rear door (gate) inside button it always works. haha more isolation....were getting somwhere now.

So i think my problem lies somewhere in the driver side door because the keypad on the outside does not work and that is the only button (inside) that seems to have issues. Thank you

all unlocking/locking from all inside buttons work for all doors at once

I am having a similer problem but I have the remote keypad and when I unlock the door you can hear the machanics working?

well xfatcatx... I think that you are making some progess... I think..... although by your last "one liner"... I am confused a bit based on your "step by step" analysis you did earlier (much better and clearer.... as I was getting "button depress" versus "keypad depressing" confused). I think I understand... basically when you use the inside buttons, all door lock/unlock operations happen at the same time .... good (including the "delayed" multi press on the driver's side). This is great. I think you have isolated your problem to your driver's side area as sometimes the inside button depresses don't cause any "noise" (action)... your next step is to get this functioning "all the time" before going on to the outside keypad. It is likely that a connector is loose or possibly a broken wire in the door. Try another test: with the driver's side door open at varying angle try depressing the inside driver's button to see if you get any difference in operation.... this usually indicates a broken wire in the door column if the symptoms change.

There is one other area that might be involved... a driver's side "unlock relay" (at least in 96). Are you noticing a difference between unlock versus lock.... if so then this relay might be your problem.

Yes I just noticed this when i pulled in. Its pretty much just the UNLOCK on the driver side inside button. The LOCK seems to work one the first press almost every time.

well, I think you have some of your answer... check to see if your year has a driver's side unlock relay.... looks like it is bad maybe or wires going to it are bad. In 96, its in the aux relay box #4 (rear cargo I think).... which is probably close to all your other relays for the locking /unlocking actions.

thank you very much for your help. it might be another week now before i can get to it but i will post an update.
