I'm thinking ahead in the life of my Explorer - those of you that have AWD Ex's, have you had any problems with the front differential?

Sometimes in parking lots, I can faintly hear a clank noise - for lack of a better description - somewhere in the front. Most of the time, I hear it while moving forward but sometimes in reverse. Is it normal or something I should be concerned about?

Thanks

I have had no issues with my AWD system. iirc the AWD platform is the same as the AWD platform used on the V8 2nd gens, and people haven't complained about it failing.

They are very reliable. Its probably a front half shaft CV clicking. Not a big deal.

What year? Engine?

As 97awdx said it could be CV joints.
Also maybe front wheel bearings maybe?
AWD or the front diff seem solid from what i'v read.

my beat on my truck pretty hard and no issues yet. nothing lik awd doughnutz

Same as yours - 04 V8.

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something going that I don't want to deal with. I can handle any of those, but didn't want to end up having to replace the front diff.

Thanks
