I just joined this list, tia for any help anyone can give me!! I have '96 EB V8 AWD, set out to replace my leaking ft. axle pinion seal, but I now realize I NEED a special seal driver to install this seal....asfaik....can anyone tell me where to get this tool, or any tips??? Also, is this a SPICER 28.2 IFS, SPICER 28 IFS OR SPICER 35 IFS ??? My Ford service manual does not seem to cover the AWD axle, is it unique to only the AWD???
Thanks, James Jensen mailto:eokie1@yahoo.com

It's the Spicer 35 IFS.

I would try Ford for the special tool.

well, could not find the OTC tool, T79P-4676-A, anywhere locally in Dallas, where I work, and which I learned from OTC (tool manufacturer) was superseded by their part #, 205-133, anywhere locally, it was only $34.35, but could not overnight it to me, until tomorrow (I had missed their 1 pm deadline by the time I called them) so I started my jury-rigging motor........went to Home Depot, found a 1-1/4" x 3" nipple, 1-1/4" Cap, and 1-1/4" x 3" Floor flange, screwed them all together, and VOILA, worked perfectly to drive the seal into the ft. axle housing, while fitting OVER the rear end of the pinion shaft......wasn't real sure on how much to torque the nut, went 150 lb/ft., don't have an in./lb. torque wrench, with which you are supposed to measure the pre-load before you disassemble......any thoughts on this, should I take it to a shop and have them set the pre-load on ft. pinion bearings????
Thanks, James Jensen eokie1@yahoo.com

I had to replace a front axle seal also and did it with the do it yourself plumbing parts from home depot. like 12 bucks all together.
