Probably where ever they go in the v6, they just probably have another dummy plug.

Would be sweet if all we needed to do was add a switch... That would just be.. awesome.. too bad nothing is that easy n cheap.

If off-roading isn't important, then IMHO the AWD is a far superior transfer case in a 3rd gen. There is no difference in MPG, as even the A4x4 units have a small amount of power delivered to the front end even on dry surfaces...They're never in a total 2WD mode. You never hear of problems with the AWD units...They're pretty bulletproof.

I used 4x4 Low Range today for the first time on mine, and wouldn't have had to. Had to pull a Chevy Astro out of a snowbank at work today, and kicked it into 4LO just for the extra pulling power in case I needed it. I didn't. I barely had to touch the throttle and it walked it right out. The only reason I even used my Explorer is because the '96 Chevy K1500 that I was using couldn't get it out...I was spinning one front and one rear wheel with it and it accomplished nothing but barely dragging the Astro about 2 feet.

Ditto, not that every model is the same, but I think that at least the 98-01's all have the identical 4WD wiring. The wiring is in the vehicle, but the 4WD trucks(V6) have the three electrical components and transfer case/harness. I'll be adding those to my 98 soon, like Aaron did.
