First let me say that I am quite unimformed when it comes to this subject,so please forgive my ingnorance.I am interested in changing my stock gearing to 4.10 and go with a LSD ,which will be sufficient for the wheelin' that I do.My question is, can this be done in the stock axles, and when the limited slip is purchased, does it include the gearing of choice,or are they two seperate applications and are bought seperately.$ is definetly a factor .TIA

No sweat, we all learned somehow or another, To answer your questions, yes the gearing and LSD can be done in your stock axles. To my knowledge gearing and LSD are not sold together as a package. Are your sure your rig did not come from the factory with a stock LSD? mine did, you can verify this by a code on the inside of the drivers door, If I recoall it is a 2 digit alpha numerical code i.e. D-4. Gearing and LSD can get a little expensive. probably $300-400 for a aftermarket LSD, and gearing (you will need 2 sets, front/back) Around $300-400 as well I would guess.

Hope this helps

I appreciate the response.I had often wondered if my truck came stock with LSDs,it has always seemed to grip well even in very off kilter situations.Do you know what the actual code is ? The thought of upgrading to lockers is appealing, but not for the $ it will cost. The gearing however,is an issue that MUST be seen to.I presently only have 30" Mud terrains on it,and the gearing is way to tall. We're talking revving only about 1750RPM in 5th gear at 62mph(100kph ya,I'm Canadian)
It took a while to get used to the fact that it will damn near stall off the line if you do not drastically slip the clutch.I would imagine that somebody ordered highway gears for it origanally, but it seems too far below the power band to be effiecient in my opinion. My buddys 93 Sport 5spd is geared much lower, and he's never done anything to it at all since he bought it as a demo from Ford in '94.Another Question I have is, will 4.10s be alright when I go to 33" rubber? I see that is the set up used by many people here, but I have seen little feed back as to how well the combination works.

Here I thought we were talking about LSD:D

Hope these codes help, should be listed on your door sticker

Code Capacity Ratio
43 Open 3200 3.08
41 Open 3200 3.27
42 Open 4.10
46 Open 3.73
45 Open 3200 3.55
D4 Limited Slip 3200 3.73
D2 Limited Slip 4.10
L73 Limited Slip 3.73 >>

FYI, Most people with 33's and 4.10's wish they had 4.56.

You are right about 3.27's being wrong for the powerband. All the 1st gens should have come with 3.73 as standard. 4.10, as option pkg.
