Axle shaft for 8.8 same size as 7.5?

Hi,

Going to eventually change driver's side axle shaft, but most of the stores only carry the 7.5. I think in some forums they said that the axle shaft for the 7.5 and 8.8 are the same. Rock auto has a shaft that I think shows that it fits both 8.8 and 7.5, not sure the way they write the description is confusing.

Anyone know if they are indeed the same size? Cause I know the passenger and driver side are different lengths.

from the ranger, mustang, and thunderbird rears I have worked with, yes the 7.5 and the 8.8 have a 28 spline ( some exploers have a 31 spline) as long as the length is correct for your truck it will fit.

'90-'92 7.5 & 8.8 shafts will interchange, yes. '93-'09 shafts will also interchange with each other, however you cannot interchange between '90-'92s and '93-'09s (the axle was made wider for '93).
