I am changing from my worn out, super soft, torsion bars today to some b-rated bars. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

GJarrett detailed the process a little ways down in the second post of this thread. May be a little helpful.

"Extremely Difficult"

Geez, oh well, the guy at the dealer talked like it was a piece of cake. Well, i'm gonna start on it now.

Conflicting stories...don't you hate that?!?! Well, Good luck to you anyway, and I hope it goes smoothly. Let us know how it really goes for you though.

Sorry guys this has job has passed the threashold of my mechanical ability. I cannot possibly complete this job safely in a cramped garage without the appropriate tools. I just don't think this is safe enough for me continue. And yes the job looks VERY hard to do. I will be taking it to the tire place tomorrow afternoon for them to do the job, and align it and balance the tires at the same time.

So what's the word on this Jason, how did it go. What is the advantage of having Code B and where did you get them. What do you think i have on my 97?

Happy trails!!

Check the spring code on your door panel to see what you have, or check the bars themselves. They are stamped with the code. Sorry folks I am a day late for the install. They are actually going in tomorrow. The tire shop is charging major $$$.

The advantage is that they are stiffer, therefore allowing you to get more height out of a torsion twist.

Jason_25; by what you said about getting more height out of your TT according to what spring code a person had in the front; is it still correct to say... that no matter how stiff of a torsion code you have, you should still not exceed 2" max, to lift the front? The reason I ask is that my SPR code is "12" and after reading and searching this board I now know that I have some of the stiffest front/rear springs possible. I just wish I could go higher in the front (safely).

Becker, honestly I am not sure. I will go as high as possible though, potentially 2.5 inches. I will let you all know later on today when I get it back.

B bars are in!

The mechanic lifted it for me and all that stuff, and I gained 1 3/4 inches!

It's definitely higher now. He said with the softness of my old bars I just couldn't go any higher with the TT. The tires no longer rub under ANY circumstances now. And they are 31.8 inches tall.
