Hey guys, I am new to this forum so I am hoping that that yall can answer my question. Well the deal is that i have one 12" sub firing at the back hatch of the car. I have a 95 Explorer, and when i turn it up the whole back hatch rattles like no other. I have taken the plastic off and tried to listen to it but i still can not seem to narrow it down. do yall have any soultions or ideas what this could be?

Good luck. I have several layers of Dynamat on my hatch (and throughout the entire vehicle) and the only part of the truck that makes any noise is the hatch. It's better, but the window itself flexes and rattles against the door. Usually the noisiest culprit is your license plate.

I am going to foam up my rear hatch as well as a little sound dampening mat to get rid of most of the rattles.

What sub do you have??

I have one Alpine Type R 12" sub. It hits really well but i just hate the rattling noise. I have dampened the liscense plate and the inside of the plastic layer with dynomat but the rattle is still there. There has to be a way to fix it other than laying 4 layers of mat on it.

I'm running two Type R 15s. The only way I can see to get rid of the persistent noise in my back hatch would be to layer dynamat on the edges of the window where it matches up with the rest of the hatch when closed. You wouldn't be able to see it when it's closed, but it would definitely be visible when it's openend, and I don't want that. I can't hear the noise on the inside anyway, and from the outside you really only hear it if you are close to the rear of the vehicle.

Good luck with yours.

wow 2 R 15's. That must be loud. Well, the rattle that comes form the hatch is not all from the window. There is some stuff that is rattling in the door itself. do you know anything about that?

Ya, they get pretty dang loud.

What year is yours? On my 3rd gen, the paneling comes off without too much trouble and you can toy around in there to find the culprit and add more deadener. Good luck.

I have a 95 Limited. The back plactic pannel comes of really easy and i have put one layer of dynamat on that side. I have had the sub firing with the pannel off and i just cant seem to narrow it down to what is causing the problem. The thing is, is that there is alot of connecting rods and locking mechinisms inside the pannel it self and i think that all of that stuff inside is casuing the problem but i just dont know how to fix it. I guess a crap load of dynamat will just have to do.

I have read that axle grease on all the mount points and such of the locking stuff can be a big help. might not kill it all the way but help a good bit

Nam...I hope you don't plan on using foam around the mechanical components that run throught the middle for your unlock and pop on the hatch. Seems like it would be a pain in the butt to work around that. Unless you never want to open the hatch again. Or you could just open and close it like ten times while it is curing so that it will leave a tunnel for where everything moves.

Well I never use my rear wiper and never use the glass hatch. The damn rear wiper sucks and doesn't even sweep the rear glass.

I haven't taking off the hatch paneling yet. Any tips on taking it off??

im also about to do this, i was thinking about getting an extra set of weather stripping and surround the old set with so instead of like this | (i know) it'd be like this || with the glass resting on top then i fill between the two with foam ("great stuff") the problem with this hatch is that covering any of the weather stripping to keep the glass from rattling would defeat the purpose of the weather stripping which would probably result in leaks.

id like to just seal the damned thing on but that hurts resale obviously.
as for dynamating the edges of the glass it's the same thing and the dynamat would get soaked

maybe i could put weatherstripping around the edge of the glass
pure genius i say!! any input?

yea i know my posts are run on sentence hell (sorry)

Ok, I have an 01 Sport...So it may be different. But the first time I took it off, I broke it. So here is how it comes off. When you pop the hatch open, you are standing under it. The area around the top of the window pops directly off. There are like four snap in things behind the panel. However the big portion, the lower half, does not pop in. It slides in. So after you pop off the top few, it should slide up towards the top of the window...The whole panel. Let me know if you are confused. And again, my truck is 01 sport.

lol I tried to take off the bottom drivers side first and broke it just like you did haha...funny.

I pulled off the moulding on the door and put in some foam padding all inside it, just enough so it can be unlocked and opened and vise versa. It worked like a charm.

The window rattled too, so i re-adjusted the window latch so it closes a little tighter, that helped too.

how did you adjust the latch???

I need to know this too.

My hatch window has been rattling ever since the window was replaced after an accident. I also have water streaks down the inside of the window from it leaking sometimes. It just doesn't seem to close all the way.

^^^Same here. I want to know this.

yeah tell us how to adjust the back hatch glass lock. You can't post a comment like that and not expect like a hundred of us to want to do it too :D

sorry, for the late reply, but if your emove the moulding and look at the latch that holds the glass, there are two bolts that hold it in place and the brckets on the latch are elongated so you can adjust it, just loosen them up and move the latch towards the front of the car and that will make the window close tighter. it takes a bit more effort to close it though
