back hatch will not onlock

My explorer's back hatch will not unlock. Neither with the key or the power locks, will unlock it. Any Suggestions?

See if you can get off the interior trim panel. I've never tried on mine, just assume they made it possible to get off with the hatch shut for repair purposes. Here's a video that may help but the hatch is open on it:

It actually is possible to remove the inner trim panel with the hatch locked. Had to do it at a junk yard not long ago to retrieve a part I needed.
