Hi All, Recently purchased a new to me, 02 Eddie Bauer. Would like to add the Back-up sensor option. Anybody ever done this or know if it can be done? Does wiring already exist, or do I have to do all the wiring too? Thanks in advance, "pear"

I have them and am not impressed

They give false signals off tall weeds and slopes. They are annoying if you mount a bike rack or pull a trailer. I do believe they have some value as a safety feature - kids, bikes etc. but not sure I would go to great expense to add them.

Same for the tire sensors by the way. I think you can get an aftermarket keit that is much better, tells actual pressure on a digital readout.

Keith, I really appreciate your input, but I have back-up alarms on my other 02, and tire sensors on the Vette. So I have an idea what I am asking about............This is how threads get Hi-jacked when people make unsolicited posts................Thanks, "pear"

W.....T.....F....
You asked a question...
Someone responded.....
and you *****ed them out? :thumbdwn:

Since you seem to be an expert with them, you should be able to put them in with no trouble then?

They are annoying. But handy when parking. Just wish you could turn them off and stay off, and not turn back on when you switch gears.

Whoops, Hi Jacked the thread!

Hey geniuses, have you guys considered actually reading and responding to the question before bashing someone?

Pear did not ask for anyone's opinions about backup sensors and did not ask how they work or if they are worth it to install. The questions were simply and specifically if anyone had installed one and if the wiring already existed.

Sorry Pear. I don't have the answer either. However, I can at least bump this thread without shoveling in a pound of almighty and unsolicited opinion .

This forum is pretty dead. It does not get very many new posts or answers. I would like to see that improve, but yelling at people about automotive issues does not encourage participation.

I'm not sure, but there's a few people around here with sand packed where the sun doesn't shine apparently. Pound a little more in there gentlemen.

LOL Thanks there Johnny Gage...............

Whoops, Hi Jacked the thread!

My 3rd gen came with a switch to turn them on/off

Your kidding me right? Yep another thread hi-jack...

I am looking to do it too. I have small kids so it would be very useful.
I have the book seen the chasis have not done it.
What I do know is the Connecter is there to plug into the body. You will need the Module (has the speaker), Wire harness to the Bumper, and the Bumper itself, very expensive. Factory can be turned off in the Dash.

For the price of the Bumper there are after markets for about 70 bucks or so. These only need power, the module sits under the bumper outside, (maybe hard to hear, cant be turned off) and couple of sensors that need to be drilled. Google it. If not i'll try and find the links. Let me know how things go. Its a future mod once I can save for it.

I put an aftermarket kit in mine. I did modify the kit to put the leds and speaker right up front in the aftermarket radio blanking plate. I have to say I find it very useful. As for wiring, you have to do it all including the pickup for reverse (which I got from a rear light). I hid the control box in the jack compartment and ran the wires under the kick plates to the front. Hope that helps.

So does mine, but you change gear, and it enables itself again. I wish it would default off and you hit the button to turn it on.

Anyone out there know how to disable the back-up chirp alarm on a newer explorer?

My neighbor has one and it's driving me crazy!! I want to show him how to disable it.

Thanks!!!

I have a 2000 xlt. My back up alarm does not work. How can I check it out to fix it?

(disclaimer - I do not have all the answers)

However, on the 3rd gen Ex's the back up sensor warning can be turned off if it bothers you. I have had no issues with mine, rather I like it a lot.

There are after market kits and they can be installed on any car. I even saw one installed in the year bumper valance on a C6 Vette.

I will never buy another car without them. I am even currently looking at buying a BMW that has them on both the front and rear.
